IM3: the iconic pantograph by Gravotech

MANUAL ENGRAVER
In 1938, we revolutionized the world of engraving with a new definition of pantographs, simpler, more reliable and user friendly. The IM3 manual engraving machine is one of our best-sellers to engrave flat items for signage and personalization.

  • Manual engraving machine
The IM3 pantograph works on its own, without a computer, electronic device or software. Select your characters among a full set and start manually engraving. The arm fitted with a stylus moves in the groove of the model, while the other arm fitted with a pin reproduces the composition. With our timeless Pantograph, you can produce outstanding engravings while having a rest from screens.

  • Simple engraver with a vintage mechanic
No fancy design or decorated structure. The IM3 is a vintage engraving machine that claims its belonging to the old industrial times. The mechanical structure is easy to access when needed as it is entirely bare. Watch your engraving being done while making it and instantly see the result of your work!

  • Constant engraving line
Thanks to the ingenious vibration-resistant depth adjustment nose, the engraving remains constant regardless of the material. Engrave brass, copper, steel, plastic, wood and more, depending on your needs and desires. Several styluses are available for different results.

    IM3: Gravograph first machine

The IM3 pantograph: Gravograph first invention in 1938

The IM3 pantograph story begins in 1938, when Norbert Schimmel, a German immigrant, and Werner Dannheisser founded New Hermes Inc in the United-States. Although engraving machines were widely used in Europe, none were available in the US. They decided to improve what already existed and designed the first portable pantograph engraver in the US.

When New Hermes became Gravograph in 1989, the team decided to keep the IM3 as its main manual engraver. The same decision was made when Gravograph became Gravotech in 2021.

Throughout the years our IM3 pantograph remained about the same: a sturdy and precise manual engraving machine that lasts for decades. We are proud to say that the first engraver ever created by our historical founders still is one of our flagships engraving machines, almost 100 years later.
